Fly-fishing for the exotic
fresh-water Dorado of the Ibera Marsh!!!
Fly Lodge
International now offers lodges and guide services with
some of the best accesses of the Ibera Marsh north of Buenos
Aries. This is the
birthplace of the Corrientes Rivers and home to schools of
veracious trout-like Dorado.
This “River Tiger”, as it is locally known, can
exceed 3O pounds and will wage an acrobatic battle capable of
making Steelhead seem tame.
Esteros de Ibera
Fishing for Dorado
The Because of the water
clarity and the way Dorado feed, cruising Dorado will often be
seen feeding along the river edge.
This allows for great site casting opportunities.
Throwing big streamer patterns with a wire lead is the
standard and when a Dorado hammers your fly, you may hope that
you are prepared. Many have burned through multiple yards of line before having
time to react. Dorado
are powerful swimmers and wild jumpers.
These attributes along with it’s beautiful golden color
are winning it acclaim as the most challenging freshwater
game-fish of South America.
Accommodations
Our favorite
location for access to the Marsh is the Posada Hambare’.
It’s convenient location puts you a short distance from
the more productive parts of the Ibera Marsh and the Corrientes
River system. In fact it lies on the banks of the Corrientes River in the
heart of a 75-acre park, complete with a swimming pool and
it’s own jetty. There
are nine private rooms, beautifully equipped with all modern
conveniences. Time
on the river in pursuit of Dorado is rounded out by quiet
relaxed hours at the lodge and tasty Argentine cuisine. All-inclusive daily rates are $420 per person per angling
day. Transfer days
are discounted.
The Guides
All guides have several
years of guiding experience and know the waters of their area
intimately. Many of
them are actually the equivalent of North American fish and game
officers (Guarda de Pesca).
They will assess your desires and abilities to provide
you the best opportunities for success. You will enjoy the friendly companionship and insight they
provide about the local culture, history wildlife and geography
of The Ibera Marsh. Although
most of the guides speak good to excellent English, it would be
wise to try your best at Spanish.
All Argentines will respect your effort to speak their
native language and will embrace you as their guest.
The Season / Weather
In general the best fishing
is to be had between September and May.
This means the fishery is available nearly year around.
Because of the local climate there is an abundant amount
of vegetation. However,
daily temperatures may fluctuate between 95 degrees and 65
degrees if a storm passes through.
Precipitation can be heavy but is quick to disperse,
leaving the countryside a-glow in the aftermath.
